Who Said What?! Maradona Vs Butcher, Pundits and Fans
Football Culture
Written by James Bailey

We catch up with the best quotes from the past couple of weeks in the world of football to see who said what?!

"We were like school kids around a star coming to school. To be able to shake his hand, get a cuddle off him and a picture, it made my birthday."

England centre back Rio Ferdinand was clearly more delighted to meet the new Argentina manager then former-England player Terry Butcher who still finds it “very hard to forgive and forget” Maradona’s antics in ’86.

Though Butcher certainly didn't make as much of an impact on the Argentinian legend:

"Who is he? Who is Butcher?"

Whilst Maradona and Terry Butcher increased the profile of the Scotland Vs Argentina friendly, over in the England camp Jimmy Bullard certainly knows how to make friends:

I'm not sure I'm better than Steven - but I'm definitely thinner than Frank."
Jimmy Bullard reacts to the Fulham faithful's song about him. (Jimmy Bullard, Bullard, he's better than Steve Gerrard, he's thinner than Frank Lampard, Jim Bullard, Bullard).

With the England fixtures moving away from the BBC, at least we no longer have to listen to Mark Lawrenson’s verdict:

"I think City will come out on top."
Lawro's prediction for Hull City v Man City.

But unfortunately it doesn’t get much better on ITV:

"The Arsenal youth team is full of young players."
Robbie Earle on ITV.

Whilst in the stadiums, the fans join in with the comedy:

"Can we play you every week?"
Spurs to Liverpool fans, after beating them twice inside seven days.

"You don't know what you're doing!"

Leeds fans at Derby to guy who proposed to his girlfriend on the pitch.

  "England's no. 7."
Arsenal fans to Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland.

"
England's no. 6."
After Kirkland makes a series of incredible saves.
