After a tight final between the two best futsal nations, Brazil and Spain, the South American's claimed their first Futsal World Cup trophy in eight years. On home soil Brazil eventually won 4-3 in a penalty shootout to win the tournament. This came about after a tense and largely underwhelming first half and despite a showcase of skills being displayed throughout the second period the two teams could still not be separated. Extra time brought no winner, so it was down to the dreaded penalty shootout where it was Brazil who were victorious. In the battle for third place Italy defeated Russia 2-1 and took home the bronze medal.
