Our popular Spanish reporter Matt Allen returns this week posing the questions who is the best player currently in La Liga? La Liga is home to some of the world’s best players but who is the best. It is very difficult to pick a clear favourite because everyone has a different opinion on what makes a great player. Messi is undoubtedly a fantastic dribbler of the ball whilst Casillas is arguably the most consistent goalkeeper in La Liga.  I have attempted to shortlist five players and to make it fair they all play in very different positions. Iker Casillas is the goalkeeper I’ve plumped for because of his fantastic reflexes and his top leadership skills which he showed in Euro 2008. Beating off stiff competition from Puyol and Cannavaro, Sergio Ramos is my personal choice for the best defender in La Liga because of his fantastic ball skills and unrivalled confidence. Choosing the best central midfield player is the most difficult choice because they can be judged on such a large range of attributes, this is why I tried to select the most all round player. Marcos Senna is my pick because he radiates quality and was the secret behind Villareal’s success last season. The best winger in La Liga has to be Leo Messi, he is the only player in Europe that has enough talent to eclipse the great Diego Maradona. The fifth and final slot remaining is for the striker and this is your choice…I trust you all to make a wise decision.
