The England Vs Ireland Legends match took place last night with a terrific game being decided on penalties. After their 5-1 loss to a German select XI, the England legends were determined for a better outcome and in the end were victorious.
After the first 90 minutes, the score was level at 3-3. Lee Sharpe had netted a hat-trick, whilst Jason McAteer scored two with Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn completing the scoring for the Irish side. The game was therefore decided on spot kicks and it was Arsenal great Nigel Winterburn who slotted home the winning penalty. The England Legends team, which included Bryan Robson and Graeme Le Saux, were able to lift aloft the Johnny Haynes Memorial Cup in front of the spectators who had turned up to show their support at Craven Cottage.
