James Meets.... Luka Modric
Football Culture
Written by James Bailey

The Croatian playmaker was one of the stars of Euro 2008 though has yet to make an impact on the English Premier League following his transfer from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham Hotspur.

Arriving with such a hefty price tag upon his head, roughly £16.5 million, the slight, small and smart midfielder will attempt to reach his pinnacle at the North London club. Despite a disappointing start to the season, Spurs will hope to turn their fortunes around sooner rather than later and it may be Modric who generates their return to form. The 22 year old is widely regarded as an exceptional talent and Euro 2008 provided the playmaker with an opportunity to display his ability to a broader audience. However the critics now demand he shows his skill week-in, week-out whilst coping with the physical nature of the Premiership. His ability to read the game and create chances could soon provide the Spurs faithful with something to cheer about.

When I met Luka, I realised how small he actually was and the fears he may not be able to play in the Premier league did immediately spring to mind. However Maradona and Keegan showed size doesn’t matter, so once he has settled down look out for Luka. Modric could soon start producing his magic.
