Transfer Window Round-Up

The transfer window slammed shut for a few months at midnight on Monday. Amid the news regarding Manchester City’s takeover, the rumours carried on coming throughout the day; most involving Man City themselves and North London side Tottenham Hotspur. Berbatov and Villa to Eastlands? Owen and Heskey to reunite at White Hart Lane? For some it was a late night staying tuned to Sky Sports News, for others the news greeted them the following morning. The two main moves involved both the mentioned clubs and both involved transfer fees over £30 million.

The Citizens attempt to snatch Dimitar Berbatov from under their neighbours nose was unsuccessful as the Bulgarian forward elected to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad for around £31 million, with young talent Fraizer Campbell moving in the opposite direction in a one year loan deal. Man City decided to splash their new found cash on Brazilian striker Robinho who left Madrid for Manchester. The 24 year old became the most expensive player ever signed by a British club having commanded a fee of £32.5 million.

With Man City’s new owners demanding success, even more money could be thrown around in January when the window re-opens. Gossip is already circulating linking The Blues with such star players as Ronaldo, Kaka and Messi. Whilst back at White Hart Lane, stories continue to suggest Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin will sign post Christmas, perhaps along with the Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. We’ll just have to wait and see. One thing for sure is the rumours won’t die down.
