Two years ago an England XI took on a Rest of the World side in order to raise money and awareness for UNICEF. This summer Soccer Aid will return and Sunday 7th September will see the Soccer Aid match be competed once again. The two sides will contain a mixture of football legends and celebrities. The England squad will contain ex-international players Teddy Sheringham, Alan Shearer and Jamie Redknapp. The latter’s father will be managing the side and will have to decide whether to start with Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston and Ben Shephard. Harry Redknapp will have to motivate his team if they are going to defeat the Rest of the World side which is already looking impressive. Coached by Kenny Dalglish, Peter Schmeichel, Franco Baresi and Jaap Stam should provide a strong defensive line. Other stars set to feature include cricketer Brian Lara, chef Gordon Ramsey and American actor Jesse Metcalfe. With more players set to be announced the main question revolves around the Argentinean legend Diego Maradona. Having played in the game previously, Maradona was announced as making a return however his name has since been taking off the ITV website. Despite being for charity the game will certainly be highly competitive. Click here for more information about Soccer Aid.
