Football Shirts Round-Up: Partick Pick Pink
Football Shirts
Written by James Bailey

The weekend saw the start of the new Scottish season. Title challengers Rangers unveiled their white away shirt. The kit contains red and blue bands and is reminiscent of the Umbro kit Rangers wore in the mid 1980’s. Fellow Scottish side Partick Thistle also released their new Puma away shirt. Boldly electing pink and grey stripes, Partick Thistle will become the first ever team to wear pink in Scottish football. As seen on the continent with Palermo, Benfica and Juventus, the pink shade at least makes you stand out.

The weekend also saw the official opening of the Beijing Olympic Games. The men’s football has so far been dominated by South American giants Argentina and Brazil. The latter however have been told they are not allowed to wear their national crest upon their shirts as it goes against Olympic rules. The five stars representing their five World Cup wins and the Nike logo contravene the amateur spirit of the games.

With Argentina and Brazil both looking strong, the two are competing for Olympic glory. At domestic level in Argentina, the players of Boca Juniors received their home and away shirts ahead of the new season. Nike’s new design incorporates the latest technology combining for the first time two fabrics that will give the shirt an ultra-light quality, a better fit to the body and will afford easier breathing to its wearer. The official jerseys will contain the club motto, “Every Day I Love You More.”

The English Premiership will kick off on Saturday and further Premier League teams unfurled their new kit designs. Newcastle United revealed their silver coloured third shirt and Everton officially unveiled their Umbro white away shirt.

With football back, we can all rejoice. For more information about the shirts- footballshirtculture.com is the place to visit.
