Croatian international Luka Modric will have to perform well in this summer’s tournament if he is going to live up to Tottenham’s £16.5 million transfer valuation. The 22 year old is widely regarded as an exceptional talent and Euro 2008 will give the playmaker an opportunity to display his ability to a broader audience.

Having played for Dinamo Zagreb, respectively he hasn’t competed with top class players week in week out; however he uses both feet to play, and his biggest strength is his offensive positioning without the ball, as well as his great ability to read the game. Modric made two substitute appearances at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and scored his first international goal against Italy in the same year. Modric was also part of the team which prevented England from qualifying for Euro 2008.

Whether or not the slight Croatian will be able to cope with the Premier League’s physical side next campaign is yet to be seen. However he will certainly be one to watch in the upcoming tournament and Spurs fans will be desperately hoping he turns in some decent performances as they wait optimistically for the new season.
