Sir Bobby Robson is a living legend in the football world. The former England, Newcastle and Ipswich manager has also won trophies in the Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch leagues respectively. Robson most recently occupied the role of football consultant for the Irish national team, and is also an honoury president of Ipswich FC. Throughout his lifetime unfortunately Sir Bobby has repeatedly been diagnosed with cancer and after being diagnosed for the 5th time earlier this year, he vowed to "battle as I've always done" against the illness. To help raise money in order to help others fighting the illness, he has recently set up the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Now at the age of seventy five, this project is his latest goal. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation will focus on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.
A new idea has been drawn up by the Newcastle Fans Society in order to support The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Two of the teams closest to Robson’s heart, Newcastle FC and Ipswich FC would play a friendly match in pre-season with all ticket and programme sales going to his charity. The match would occur with the venue alternating between St James’ Park and Portman Road. Therefore both sets of fans would benefit and be able to donate more money to this fantastic foundation. Other ideas are being banded about involving a game involving “legends”. The plan has already received backing from other sites and the Football Supporters Federation. However to make this Charity Game reality, we need your help! Further information about the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation can be found here, http://www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk/ and more information regarding the idea is available on http://sbrf-appeal.co.uk/. A petition has been set up to gain support for this plan and can be found here: http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/19449.html. Please spread the word, sign the petition and hopefully these plans will formulate to helping Sir Bobby’s latest goal.
