EURO 2008 PLAYER PROFILE - Cristiano Ronaldo
Football Culture
Written by James Bailey

The scorer of 42 goals in 48 games this season at Manchester United. Not bad, especially considering he is usually played as a winger.

The winner of the 2008 English PFA Player of the Year awards heads into Euro 2008 with a high reputation. Finishing third in the 2007 World Player of the Year award, Ronaldo now wants to prove himself on the international scene and lead his country one step further than four years ago, when they were beaten by underdogs Greece in the final. Legends such as Maradona, Platini and Pele won international tournaments single handedly, already pundits are suggesting this could be Ronaldo’s tournament.

Ronaldo scored a total of 8 goals in Portugal's UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying campaign and hopes to add a few more to his tally during this summer’s competition. The skillful Portuguese player is world renowned for his silky dribbling attributes however standing tall at 6ft1 he also poses an aerial danger. Having already been a member of the winning team in the Champions League and Premiership, Ronaldo could add a Euro 2008 winners medal to his collection if he performs with the same consistency he has shown in the last year.

As a ManU fan since 1967 I think Ronaldo is up there with Best, although I
will be dissappointed if he goes to Rael Madrid. If he really wants
to go to Spain Sir Alex should swap him for Ronaldinho + £20m. That
would get us the player we really wanted when we signed Ronny and as
a bonus give one in the eye to Rael. Were you on Radio Bristol this
morning? regards Frank

Yes Ronaldo has certainly shown tremendous quality, although i'm not quite sure
if he matches up to Best quite yet. And yes that was me on BBC Radio Bristol
earlier! Look out for an article about me and the site in the Bristol Evening
Post!
